The purpose of this discussion is to outline the major components and theories that comprise any data transmission system. Digital signaling and analog signaling are discussed as are the differences between digital and analog signals. One specific example of a data transmission system is discussed. This study is not a complete survey of data/computer networking and areas of further study are suggested. A problem set is given to illustrate the material and test the readerís understanding of the concepts of this paper.
