The purpose of the Society for Machines and Mentality is to advance philosophical understanding of issues involving artificial intelligence, philosophy, and cognitive science.

Membership Information

For information about the objectives of the Society, please refer to the constitution of the Society for Machines and Mentality.

If you choose to join the Society, there are two options:

Membership only

• This gives you membership in the Society for the current calendar year.
• The membership fee is $5 USD.
• It may be paid by a check drawn on a bank with a branch in the USA or by credit card.
• Note: If you choose to pay by credit card, you will be charged an additional $0.60 USD to cover the cost of processing a credit card transaction.

Membership and a subscription to Minds and Machines

• This gives you membership in the Society for the current calendar year and a reduced-rate subscription to the current year's volume of the journal. (You save a lot of money compared to the regular individual subscriber rate.)
• The total cost for this service is $67 USD: the $5 Society membership fee plus $62 for the subscription. Due to increases in printing and postal costs, Springer has increased the subscription rate beginning with volume 18 (2008) to $62 USD.
• It may be paid by a check drawn on a bank with a branch in the USA or by credit card.
• Note: If you choose to pay by credit card, you will be charged an additional $2.95 USD to cover the cost of processing a credit card transaction.

Membership Application

You can configure a membership application on this website.

If you intend to pay by check, you'll go through a series of steps which will generate a document which you can print out and send in with your payment information.

If you intend to pay by credit card, you'll go through a series of steps in which you supply us with your basic subscriber information. You'll then be asked to click on a button which will take you to the PayPal website, where you will make a secure credit card transaction.
